Exterior Painting
Central Ohio weather can be rough, at the extremes ranging from humid triple digits in the summer to below-zero ice storms in the winter. This weather taxes the exterior of our homes. It is essential to maintain the frontline surfaces with the proper coatings. To ensure the best results, there's no substitute for thorough prep work, quality materials, and proper technique. Although we evaluate each project on an individual basis, we have a precise "roadmap" from beginning to end:
Step 1. Request a quote
We will work with you to find the most convenient time possible to come out and evaluate your project needs. You will receive a quote which specifies the scope of work and the costs. All prices are up-front and inclusive, so there are no surprises at the end of the job.
Step 2. Pressure/power washing
A complete pressure wash is a critical step in the preparation process. Pressure washing removes dirt, dust, grime, and mildew, allowing paint and stain to properly absorb and adhere to wood, stucco, and aluminum surfaces
Step 3. Replace rotting wood (if applicable)
In some cases, rotting wood boards should be removed and replaced with a more appropriate type of wood. The most common wood used on the exterior of Columbus homes is cedar. Cedar is known for its resistance to rot and insects and its attractive texture.
Step 4. Standard (...and critical) prep work
The difference between a beautiful looking paint job and a beautiful looking paint job that will last lies in thorough preparation work. Standard prep work includes:
- Laying drop clothes & tarps on areas to be protected. i.e. roof, driveway, porches, landscaping, etc.
- Masking windows and light fixtures with paper/tape/plastic where necessary
- Scraping peeling & failing paint
- Sanding rough edges
- Priming bare wood with a high quality bonding primer
- Caulking gaps in wood where water intrusion may be possible
- Puttying holes in wood (e.g., carpenter bee holes)
- Removing downspouts to ensure the whole wood board receives prep work and paint.
Step 5. Paint
Finally comes the paint. Together, we will determine the appropriate product for your project and budget.
